Gemini, which was previously known as Bard was announced in February of 2023 by CEO Sundar Pichai and in a statement from Google. Almost a month later, it was introduced initially as Bard and renamed a year later to Gemini. Similar to the famous chatgpt. It is often regarded a competitor to it and compared with it. Gemini is the product of Sundar Pichai’s lifelong commitment to AI combined with the efforts of the excellent team at google research.

“It was built from the ground up to be multimodal, which means it can generalize and seamlessly understand, operate across and combine different types of information including text, code, audio, image and video.”

Gemini can now generate images

In their recent updates, it was announced that the AI model can now generate images as well, The picture above is an example. This feature brings Google’s AI model in line with it’s competitors like midjourney and open AI. Both of which host powerful image generators. One of the thing that sets google’s ai model apart from it’s competitors is that it’s image generator is completely free. To access midjourney, you need to cross a paywall but google’s image generator does it for free. Just look up gemini and put in your prompt. Other good things about it include:-

  1. Imagen gets it’s public debut.
  2. It uses an invisible watermark.

Next gen capabilities

The standard approach that was utilised up till now for creating multimodals was that different components were trained seperately and then stitched together. This resulted in the AI performing simple tasks seamlessly but it struggled with complex and relatively more difficult problems. In the case of gemini, Google designed it to be natively multimodal. What this means is that it is pre trained to understand multiple types of input putting it in a league of it’s own far above any other pre existing ai model. With a score of 90.0%, Gemini Ultra is the first model to outperform human experts on MMLU (massive multitask language understanding)

Powers the pixel 8

Google’s pixel 8 is basically your AI companion. In their current strategy, google plans to incorporate artificial intelligence into all their products and the pixel 8 seems to be a prime example of such an aim. It is a smartphone filled with ai features and is powered by gemini nano. Some of these features include:-

  1. Magic editor allows you to remove objects or remove their colours in the background of pictures.
  2. Magic audio eraser identifies background noise and removes it.
  3. The recorder app is also powered by AI and offers the best recording.
  4. Face editor

Gemini is available for free for everyone to use. This is in line with google’s vision. Google wants to build a future of AI, an era of gemini as they call it, this would be an era of innovation which will take technology to the next level changing billions of lives with this seamless technology. They want a world empowered by AI which will enhance creativity and extend knowledge.
